Reveal, relax and revel

The goal of this design was to reveal the garden and make it more intriguing from the house. The introduction of a laser cut boundary to two sides opens up the space and makes it feel more connected to its urban surroundings.

Inspired by Gaudi, bold geometric lines are combined with free-flowing shapes to bring structure and impact into the space. A blend of textured stone and weathered metal forges a link between Sheffield's industrial past and the gritstone edges that lie to the west of the city. This contrast of materials is used to frame the planting selected for its structure and texture, and the square paving is laid deliberately wide to appear to be bursting with greenery.

The owner wanted to use the garden for relaxation and socialising and the introduction of a curved seating area around a fire bowl extends its use into the evenings and the cooler months. A secondary space features a bespoke lounger for reading by the reflection pool.
