Curb appeal

After extensive internal improvements, the owners of this reclaimed stone property wanted to focus attention on the driveway and front garden. As the building sits in a corner plot, the design aims to open up the space and enhance curb appeal – initially by removing a wall at the front, and then by unifying the hard landscaping materials. Granite paving was selected to harmonise with the colours of the stonework and create a cohesive look to the front of the house.

Raised edges define the borders which have been shaped to flow through the space and create more visual interest. The borders had evolved over a period of time; some plants were to remain and new planting was selected to unify the two sides of the driveway. A curved beech hedge, introduced to conceal the bins which had been visible from the front door, forms a structural backdrop to the planting and creates winter interest.
